Subject: Okuma tournament team and our Mako magnet

My name is John B*****, Director of Product Development for Okuma Fishing Tackle.  I own one of your Mako Magnets and I have had lots of success with it.  Our last tournament of the season in California “Team Okuma” took 1st place in the release division with 19 Mako sharks in two days of fishing.  We also took 4th place in the big fish category with fish number 20.  I believe that the Mako Magnet is a key component to our success.  A few weeks later I was fishing with writers from Sport Fishing magazine

Attached is an image of our new tournament boat for this season.   I am sure with the new boat and once I get the Mako Magnet running again we will have a great tournament season.

Sincerely,

John B*****

Massive Shark Caught of Martha's Vineyard
using the "MAKO MAGNET"

July 17, 2005
Fishermen who hauled in a massive eleven-hundred pound tiger shark off Massachusetts this past weekend failed to capture first place in the monster shark derby on Martha's Vineyard.

The reason: The boat was six minutes too late in returning to Oak Bluffs harbor with its catch.

The toothy tiger shark may not have won the competition, but it did win the admiration of other fishermen. Steven James of the Boston Big Game Fishing Club said this truly was a monster shark, and one that "could eat you."

Sorry, but  we can only attract them to your boat, you've got to get them back in time for the weight in.

Hi , I just bought a mako magnet and within a hour we had our first shark on! Wow! As my friends say it really works. The only problem is that it was our first shark of the season in Long Island and it happened to be a 350lb thresher. It hit so hard that we ran over the magnet.

Thanks Frank

Thanks for overnighting the MM, we put it to good use . . .

2005 Leonardo Shark Tournament won w/ 264# Thresher.  We ran to the NW corner of the Chicken Canyon and gradually warming water.  We fished in 66.8.   We had our first run off w/in 30 minutes of setting up.   Thresher took the far deep bait fished off a float.  Shark hit a bluefish fillet.  We fought the fish for 55 minutes and it was whipped when leadered at the boat.  Mike Micciche made a perfect shot w/ the flying gaff.  Anglers Brian Neigut, Ted Jenkins and Ken Worthington were flawless on the rod.  Great day on the water and an awesome fish.   We weighed in at 11:30 a.m.  We were fishing from my 31' Contender, Bird Dog.    Thanks for a great product, the Mako Magnet works!

As promised, here goes my report.
I installed your Marlin Magnet in my Grady White Marlin 300 and last
Saturday I entered a Sailfish Tournament at Iztapa, Guatemala. There were
33 anglers in 11 boats at the tournament.
The day was very active and the fleet released 179 Sailfish and 2 black
Marlin.
At the end of the day, I realized that my boat had been the top boat of the
tournament with 27 releases, beating all the larger diesel engines boats!
I think this was the perfect test for your Marlin Magnet and the numbers
speak by themselves!
Now I´m sure your Marlin Magnet also works for Sailfish.
Thank you again for your great product!

We gave the Magnet a workout at the Hot Dog on Sunday. We were covered up with blue dogs. Boated 10. 10 ft'to 11'. Got tired, pulled the lines and watched the show. I have never seen so many large sharks in one place. Was it the Magnet or the double chum buckets? We normally run two chum buckets.
1 bunker, 1 mackerel.
We had purchased a plastic coated tail rope from Hands Too. The sharks had gotten so aggressive we were able to rope one as it slid over the chum bucket. Interesting!

I have a Mako Magnet. They have been around for quite a few years here. These "Magnets" work by imitating the sound of wounded baitfish. It projects these sounds 2-3 miles in every direction underwater. Does it work? Yes!!! It does such a good job of imitation, that on several occasions, I have had sharks bump, bite, or attack it, thinking it is a piece of food. Just go to any one of the many shark tournaments around here and you will find everyone using them. I have not had the chance to try the Tuna or the Marlin Magnet, but if they work as good as the Mako Magnet, you can go ahead and get rid of those flashers...

Dear Makomagnet,
as a customer of yours, I must thank you for the making of your Tuna Teaser: in fact, since I bought it some years ago, I increased the amount of my captures. At the moment I an preparing another fishing boat and I need a new Tuna Teaser. So I order it from you and I send You a photo of the last fishing season, hoping that it will advertise your Instruments factory.
I thank you.

Information : Finally released our first mako. It took all three baits-whole bunker first, then mack fillet, then bluefish filet before we set the hook. Gawked at it for a few minutes boatside(had a camera but forgot to take a photo) and then she spit the hook. Lots of green water there and very little life. Fished the mud hole Friday and had great water/life. Saw a school of bft break the surface but nothing on the troll.

Bought one last summer(2002) and used it for the last part of a poor season. Found that the shark I caught were larger than normal and acted differently. We did not see them before they took the bait. These were all blue shark in the 10' + range. On October 14th. last trip of the year we hooked a large Mako, first one I had seen and, expecting it to be a big blue, took too long with it. The unexpected jump of 15' some 200 yards off parted the 30lb test line. Must have been 700 to 800 lbs. Yes I swear by the magnet after that!!

We purchased Mako Magnet s/n 87 in June 1996. We took third place that year in the Chris Larkin South Nassau Hospital charity tournament with a 213 Lb. Blue Shark.

In June 1997 you upgraded our unit to S/87 R. We had a very successful season with the Mako's.

In June 1999 we placed 11th in the Hudson Anglers tournament against over 300 boats with a 256 Lb. Mako. ( Cash payments only went up to 10th place).

In June 2001 (the week between two tournament) on a scouting trip we tagged and released three 100 Lb class Mako's, then boated a 396 Lb Thresher shark.

Now for our big story...

On June 28th 2003 we took first place in the Freeport Woodcleft Fishing Station Annual tournament (Mako and Thresher only) with a 416 Lb. Thresher shark against 95 other boats on my refurbished 1962 25' Bertram moppie named 'Hustler'.

Since we started using your product we have definitely noticed an increase in our success. Thank you for creating such a high quality fishing product.

I won the tournament, well we took first place in this years O.C. Md. Shark Tournament. We boated a 228lb Mako for First place, ARE you sitting down, we also took first place for releases. The first day we released 36 blue sharks and the second day we released 19 blue sharks for 55 releases in two days. Not bad.

The Coastal Fisherman (our local paper) comes out the end of this week, I'll send a copy with the magnet, you can use it for testimonials if you want.

Gold Coast Report and Marlin Magnet

The mission was to get my cousin his first gamefish.  Three passes and nothing. I then flicked the Marlin Magnet switch on the next pass and all 6 of the rods loaded up with Sailfish with lots more sails in the pattern to spare. The whole pod of 30 or 40 sails had left the bait to nail the lures!!!

So at last, I can report that YES the MARLIN MAGNET DOES WORK!!!
Things went nuts with 6 sails on at once. I raced down and dropped 3 into freespool, hoping the hooks would fall out, which they did. I then heard Ata being told to keep his rod down, I then turned to see his rod tip bucking as the line was peeling off……. around the props !!!! Then there was 2 left, Bretts fish did a screaming run straight past the boat, followed by a pack of wahoo that once I got up in the bridge, realized many more were trailing behind the boat along with more sails. A wahoo nailed the bubble trail off the line on Bret’s fish. Then there was 1, we chased after and got Darron’s fish which was quite a good one of around 40kg. But in doing so went about a mile from the original spot.

Once released I went back to trolling speed, looked behind the boat to see that there were still Sailfish behind the boat even though there was bait still balled up on the sounder and flicking on the surface. First lure in was nailed and Ata got his 2nd Sail and by now he was getting to understand how the system worked, you know, the raise the rod, drop the rod and turn the handle on the reel bit!!

I then switched off the Marlin Magnet and no more shots for two hours. On the troll home we went over lots of bait schools, raised two that didn’t eat. After 2 hours I put the Magnet back on and got 2 Mahi Mahi on the next bait school. Having two Mahi mahi in the cockpit with two new guys was enough to end the day on a pretty good note!!!

Scott -
I should have written months ago to tell you that with my first night trip on
"Man-Eater" this past June, using the Mako Magnet we caught and                   released 23
sharks and boated 1 mako of about 225 pounds.  My guests fought and
released sharks until the sun came up and were exhausted!

This year on my new boat "Findango" we are looking forward to using the
magnet "off the edge" to see if we can raise a mega-mako.  I'll let you know
what happens.

Thanks -

Another win with the Mako Magnet.
Ocean City's Fifth Annual Mako Mania Tournament

Wayne Menzi, left, of Montour Falls, NY, caught this 268-pound mako shark to win $12,600 in the Fifth Annual Mako Mania Tournament, held last weekend at Bahia Marina. Menzi was fishing on the "Sea Crews II" with Capt. Paul Menzi, Mark Easley, Bill Menzi and Kevin Sandleitner. The shark took a bluefish fillet in the Fingers and took about 45 minutes to bring to the boat.

mako magnet. It's good documentation for the need to put the instrument in a cage. Don

PS- Last year we got four makos, a thresher and over 30 blue sharks on four shark fishing trips south of Martha's Vineyard. I have no doubt the mako magnet was a great help. As in this photo the sharks would swim by the chum bucket and attack the magnet.

Last year I bought a "Tuna Teaser" from you. It seemed to work very well when we were by ourselves as we got 360 one day. It is now time to think about the coming Tuna season so I got out your machine and gave it a quick test,
We were going to make a transducer block and mount it behind the rudder on the outside of our boat, is this acceptable ?

Hi Scott, everyone I talk to I tell them about your magnet. We took it
fishing on Friday night of the full moon, and caught 2 medium sized sharks about 6 and 7 feet. and missed 4 other hookups. What we noticed about the sharks is their Brazen attitude and aggression. This species of Sevengill shark which grows up to 3 metres can often be spooked once it has missed a hookup, yet with the m/m in the water they are as bold as ever. I have taken some photos that I will email to you . I will post them on my site as furter proof of the magnets ability to work, and as ever will continue through the net to promote your product. All U.S. interest I send back to you. Thanks Scott and keep up the excellent work. Ps any Aussie interest just give them my mobile phone number 0414 461 351

Scott-
my name is Jamie Stull and live in New Jersey. You had sold me a mako mag
this past June for the Montauk Marine Basin Shark tourney. My friend out of
Fishers Island bought a tuna mag. This past weekend off of Montauk myself,
and two friends were fishing behind a dragger looking for giant tuna. We
didn't find much so headed east out a little further and set up for sharking
w/ the mako mag and other sharking gear. We managed to get 40-50 pound yellow fin tuna in our slick, and soon after fighting one we were smoked by a giant. He took off and almost spooled or bent-butte 130, w/ 250 lb test line. We
managed to get the measurements of the bluefin. 7' 7" and 5' around at the
fatest point. According to charts it is roughly 500-525 lbs. We released the
fish as it would be illegal to keep, but thought we would inform you of our
catch. We did not even have the tuna mag on board, but the mako mag seemed to bring us fish once again.
